Inferences on correlation coefficients: One-sample, independent and correlated cases

چکیده
This article concerns inference on the correlation coefficients of a multivariate normal distribution. Inferential procedures based on the concepts of generalized variables (GVs) and generalized p-values are proposed for elements of a correlation matrix. For the simple correlation coefficient, the merits of the generalized confidence limits and other approximate methods are evaluated using a numerical study. The study indicates that the proposed generalized confidence limits are uniformly most accurate even for samples as small as three. The results are extended for comparing two independent correlations, overlapping and non-overlapping dependent correlations. For each problem, the properties of the GV approach and other asymptotic methods are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. The GV approach produces satisfactory results for all the problems considered. The methods are illustrated using a few practical examples. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The Problem of English Spatial, Non-spatial and Idiomatic Adpositions in Iranian EFL Environment: A Prototypical Approach
Several studies of L2 learners’ interlanguage have addressed the complexity of the English adpositional system due to several reasons like L1 transfer, lack of knowledge in L2 and the strong collocational relations of prepositions with other elements of the English language. The major purpose of the present study is to evaluate the performance of Iranian students in dealing with three broad cat...
متن کاملInferences on Correlation Coefficients of Bivariate Log-normal Distributions
This article considers inference on correlation coefficients of bivariate log-normal distributions. We developed generalized confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for the correlation coefficient, and extended the results for comparing two independent correlations. Simulation studies show that the suggested methods work well even for small samples. The methods are illustrated using two pract...
متن کاملCorrelation-Adjusted Estimation of Sensitivity and Specificity of Two Diagnostic Tests
Models for multiple-test screening data generally require the assumption that the tests are independent conditional on disease state. This assumption may be unreasonable, especially when the biologic basis of the tests is the same. We propose a model that allows for correlation between two diagnostic test results. Since models that incorporate test correlation involve more parameters than can b...

The heart is one of the most important organs in the body, which is responsible for pumping blood into the valvular systems. Beside, heart valve disorders are one of the leading causes of death in the world. These disorders are complications in the heart valves that cause the valves to deform or damage, and as a result, the sounds caused by their opening and closing compared to a healthy heart....
